Through Planetization, we'll finally be able to let go of the archaic divisions along national lines and bloodlines that have grown rigid and entrenched in the consciousness of our species. These divisions along national lines and bloodlines now form the basis of our current human political institutions and are increasingly jeopardizing our survival. This inward-looking, divisive and surface focus which we now maintain is the perspective of our past... An outward-looking, planetary focus is the perspective of our future. Once our habitual pre-occupation with a surface-based tangle of national borders and tribal birthplaces comes to an end, we'll then find ourselves positioned psychically on higher ground; upon the totality of our Earth's curved, 3-dimensional being; a more expansive vantage point which will finally enable us to forge a new sense of ourselves as a species.
The Dangers We Face
We don't need to scare ourselves with all the various ‘doomsday scenarios’ now casting a troubling shadow over our future such as nuclear Armageddon or global warming. Everywhere, people are feeling an increasing sense of urgency, a growing awareness that as a species; we all now face the same dangers... We're all dependant on the continued sustainability of Mother Earth for our survival... We all want peace in the world, lest our increasingly sophisticated WMD's destroy us all. The most pressing challenges we now face are planetary in scope, and maintaining our existing inwardly-looking national insularities, antagonisms and self-interests, won't solve them.
The Cavalry Is Not Coming
We can't pin our hopes on the good aliens, or anyone else, coming in time to save us. Evolutionarily speaking; this time we need to pull ourselves up by our own bootstraps. And we can only do this by envisioning a new, more evolved way of being in the world. A new political infrastructure based on our planetary togetherness is now required, and this new model can only grow out of the collective shift in consciousness that Planetization makes possible. Our situation demands not a minor alteration of the status quo - but a totally new way for us to self-organize as a species over our home planet. However, this outer re-structuring of our political landscape can only take place if we first evolve on inner levels, and the only way to bring about this transformation is through the Planetization paradigm... Each one of us is a significant participant in this effort....Through the Planetization inner work, each one of us is out on the front lines... And through it, our evolution will advance each 10 - 15 minute session at a time.
"(W)e are awakened by the first rays of a universal center of convergence and attraction, in which the bonds that make us one whole reach the upper limit of their complexity and they tend to merge into the magnetic force that pulls our ego ever more rapidly into what lies ahead."
Pierre Teilhard de Chardin
What the Futurists Say
The Planetization inner work creates bonds of emotional connectivity among all of humankind at the planetary level. It's experiental - not an abstract intellectualization. Until recently, many futuristic writers envisioned humans of the future with bulging foreheads to accommodate a much larger brain and greater intelligence. Others predicted that in the far future we'd all possess heightened telepathic abilities, travel via jet propelled backpacks, or have robotic housekeepers to maintain our homes.
However, today's futuristic writers are envisioning our future quite differently. They see us evolving more along trans-personal lines. Back in the 1950's, Pierre Teilhard de Chardin was among the first to envision an emerging trans-personal webwork of connectivity and caring among all of humankind, an idea which resonates with many of today's visionary thinkers as well. For example, Ervin Lazslo writes extensively about a need for a new emotional connection within our species at the planetary scale. The futurist Peter Russell sees in the internet the emergence of a 'global brain'(or the Noosphere, as Teilhard de Chardin called it) increasingly linking all people together in a totally new way.
"If together we are becoming a 'global organism' with an attendant sense of a global consciousness, then it is the explosion of communication and information technology that will be crucial in making it possible."
